It is my great honor and privilege to serve as the President of this esteemed organization, which has long stood as a strong pillar of Nepal’s vibrant tourism industry. At SOTTO Nepal, our core mission is to unite travel and tour professionals under a common platform that promotes responsible tourism, service excellence, and sustainable growth. Nepal is a land of extraordinary natural beauty, profound spiritual significance, and rich cultural heritage. From the majestic Himalayas to the serene birthplace of Lord Buddha in Lumbini, our country continues to captivate the hearts of travelers from around the world. As industry professionals, our collective responsibility is to ensure that every visitor experiences Nepal with the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and authenticity. SOTTO Nepal remains firmly committed to advocating for the interests of our members, strengthening industry capacity, and working in close collaboration with government bodies, stakeholders, and international partners. The Society of Travel and Tour Operators (SOTTO) Nepal has elected its new executive committee under the unanimous chairmanship of Man Bahadur Shahi. The 15-member committee includes Dinesh Basnet (First Vice-Chair), Madhav Kandel (Second Vice-Chair), Kumar Parajuli (General Secretary), Kamal Bahadur Magar (Secretary), Madhusudan Nepal (Treasurer), and Anand Kumar Kshetri (Co-Treasurer), along with other members.

A New Hiking Trail from Sundarijal to Dham Dam Launched by SOTTO to Promote Domestic Tourism

Kathmandu, 24 September 2023. As part of promoting domestic tourism, the Society of Travel and Tour Operators Nepal (SOTTO Nepal), renowned nationwide, organized a one-day hike from Sundarijal to Dhap Dam in Sindhupalchok. The initiative aimed to highlight hidden destinations and promote both domestic and international tourism, in collaboration with various government agencies.

Challenges to Lumbini Tourism Amid the Gen Z Movement Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, is a major religious and cultural destination in Nepal. However, the recent Gen Z movement has affected tourism by creating an image of instability, disrupting travel, reducing business income, and discouraging investment. Despite these challenges, there are opportunities. Youth engagement, digital promotion, better infrastructure, and a focus on sustainable tourism can help restore confidence. By promoting Lumbini as a global center of peace and meditation, Nepal can turn current challenges into long-term opportunities for tourism growth.
